Pilates
What is Pilates?
Pilates is founded on a set of philosophies that encourages whole-body exercise through mat- and equipment-based exercises. Pilates combines breathing, the coordination of deep postural and stability muscles, and arm & leg actions with postural improvement, suppleness, and flexibility. With regular training, Pilates exercise strengthens the body, improves posture, muscle tone, balance, and joint mobility, and relieves stress and tension.
Recently, athletes and exercise enthusiasts have embraced pilates exercise in the health rehabilitation sector across the UK, with Pilates Dover and Pilates Ashford rapidly gaining popularity in recent years. For elite athletes, including dancers, Pilates can complement training by developing whole-body strength and flexibility and help reduce the risk of injury. Pilates is suitable for all ages and levels of capability. Scientific research is starting to provide evidence of its success in reducing pain, improving physical fitness, movement and well-being.
One to One Pilates Sessions
We offer one-to-one Pilates sessions for our patients here that focus on posture, alignment and core strength. Typically, long-term injuries are best treated with a combination of Osteopathy and one-to-one Pilates sessions. This lets the Osteopath closely assess you and develop a Rehabilitation Pilates program best matched for your individual needs.
Usha Balasingam, who trained with APPI (Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute in London) to teach Matwork Pilates, brings years of experience to help her patients with pilates Dover Kent and pilates Ashford Kent to achieve their fitness goals after their osteopathy and acupuncture treatments.
