What is Tennis Elbow?

Tennis elbow is a condition that causes pain around the outside of the elbow which is medically known as lateral epicondylitis. It often occurs after strenuous overuse of the muscles and tendons of the forearm, near the elbow joint. The ergonomic strains placed upon the body by driving, occupational and recreational activities such as painting and gardening can also cause tennis elbow. The condition can come on quickly leaving the hand with a weakened grip and cause pain and restrictions with certain movements at the wrist joint or elbow.

What Causes Tennis Elbow

Any repetitive motion of the wrist, including tennis, hedge clipping, excessive use of a hammer or screwdriver, painting, or any activity that requires excessive constant gripping or squeezing can cause tennis elbow.

How can Osteopathy and Acupuncture help with Tennis Elbow?

Manipulation, deep soft tissue osteopathic massage and acupuncture is found to be effective for Tennis Elbow Treatment. The elbow is fixed and deep friction is applied on the epicondyle for five to ten minutes before manipulation. This softens and breaks the scar tissue which becomes easier to break by manipulation and articulations to the elbow. Manipulation is repeated once or twice a week for four to six weeks. Tennis Elbow Treatment sessions are sufficient to relieve the pain completely. Acupuncture needles are inserted into the forearm muscles to help break scar tissue and loosen the muscles which will significantly reduce the pain.
